Modern jazz has been, for a long time a rising trend on the Bangkok arts & culture scene and 'Snake Oil' is at the heart of this movement. Snake Oil is 'pocket-playing rhythm foundations under standard jazz heads'.

“Around ten years ago, when I'd just settled in to Bangkok, I was lucky to receive two things; a custom built double bass from Shane at Alecia Music and a few bass lessons from Tim Hauff, a jazz bassist from San Francisco who was living and gigging in Asia at the time . Tim's best advice for me as I was attempting to transition to jazz was simply, ‘learn the heads’. Needless to say from a non-melody, rhythm pattern-player like me, I'm still at it. Snake Oil is my attempt, (with help from some really talented friends), at combining those standard 'heads' with rhythm patterns I'm used to playing.”
